Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. I’m so excited to start writing about my experiences!
A little bit about myself. My name is Claire and this is my first WordPress blog. This isn’t my first blog as I also maintain an art blog on Tumblr (which I’ll talk more about later on). At the time I’m writing this I am currently a 20-year-old university student, studying Aviation. I am a Toastmasters member, a hobby artist and I play golf (which apparently isn’t a sport that other 20-somethings do). My goal is to become a pilot because I like travelling, meeting new people and experiencing new things.
I decided to run a writing blog on WordPress because I wanted to improve my writing. I used to write stories on Wattpad when I was in the 9th grade, but then stopped when I received spam. I was afraid that my account may get hacked and ended up deleting my account.
Now, I can’t write a single story and only write academic reports for school. It is a shame because I have a lot of characters and ideas that I’d like to see the light of day. I’m hoping that through blogging, I can talk about my characters and their stories, and get encouragement from that.
Another reason why I decided to start a WordPress blog is due to having terrible habits. I want to talk about proactivity and self-improvement to create better habits and live life a bit better. Having a blog and writing all about this would be a public display of accountability. By talking the talk, I will be walking the walk too.
This blog isn’t about superficial changes. You won’t become a better person by doing X and Y, always having a positive outlook won’t make you feel better and you won’t feel good even after losing weight in X amount of time. Change is a slow and steady process and it starts from within. If you agree with me, then this blog is for you.
I will be blogging about my experiences relating to these topics:
- Self – Improvement
- Proactivity
- Public Speaking
- Art
- Life Lessons
- Me (Very Good Topic :))
I always feel that I haven’t done enough with my life. There are a lot of’ should have’ and ‘what ifs’ that I constantly think about, and a lot of mistakes that I should have (that’s another one :)) avoided at the time. I always feel that I could be better. What I’ve learnt from my mistakes is that change takes a lot of time and effort. You don’t wake up one day being the best version of yourself, and there are no shortcuts either. If you are like me, I hope you will enjoy my blog and that we can grow together in the lifelong journey of self improvement : )
This blog almost never happened because I felt giving up, that no one would be interested and that I don’t know what I’m talking about. This blog exists to prove to myself that I can do it and to fight those fears and prove them wrong.
With this blog I have one main goal: save one person’s life. Had it not been for the love of my family, my friends, relatives and loved ones, my life could have turned out differently after high school. The people around me help me become who I am today, and I would like to pass that on to someone too.
The other goals that I hope to achieve by the middle of the year would be:
Increase Traffic by 6% Monthly: It would be great to have more people enjoy my writing! I hope to be able to reach at least a hundred people this year! If I can’t, that’s alright as this is a fun thing that I do.
Write At Least One Blog Post A Week: In order to get better at something, you’ve got to do it constantly! I will be writing once a week to track my growth. I am looking forward to doing this every week and I feel excited! While writing this I remembered how fun it was to write for myself, and I hope this keeps me going.
Get Rid Of At Least One Bad Habit: Without revealing too much, I have a lot of bad habits that I’d like to get rid of, or at least turn it into a good one. I’ll be talking about this later on!
Figure Out How to Use subscriptions to send Newsletters via email: I wanted to learn how to do this before I started writing, but I became too frustrated when I was customising my page. I didn’t want this one thing to stop me, so I’ve let go of it for now. If anyone can help me figure out how to do this (on free WordPress, I don’t have the software yet) that would be much appreciated!
Make Blogger Friends: Just like Tumblr, I hope to meet a lot of people who I can share ideas with and learn new things from them. I am looking forward to reading posts on Reader and hopefully collaborate with other people soon!
That’s all of my goals and we’ll see from there! I would like to take it step by step and not do anything crazy like I did with Tumblr (more about that soon). For now, I have these goals and I can just make it up as I go along 🙂
I would like to get to know the WordPress community and the people who read this. At the end of each of my posts, I’ll be asking a question and I would like to know your thoughts in the comments!
The Question Of The Post: Looking back, what is one mistake you’ve made, and what have you learned from it?
Yay! you have wordpress!! hahaha

Hi Claire, To answer your question – I’ve made countless mistakes, and continue to make them. Mistakes are inevitable, without them we could never attain true humility. Perhaps the biggest mistake is thinking we can always avoid them – or get rid of them altogether 😉 – rather than get depressed about it, it can be an opportunity for compassion and forgiveness to grow. Thanks for visiting my page, and I wish you the best of luck in your WordPress journey!

Thank you for reading my post and answering my question Mike! I find your art interesting and seeing your posts make me want to draw again. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more!
That is a well thought out answer. It’s very true that we always think that we can never make a mistake ever again. However they are always bound to happen and what we can control is how we react to them. Thank you so much, I feel excited to be here!

Best of luck on your mission of self improvement!
As far as mistakes go for me, I have a history of always taking the easy way out instead of challenging myself, and now that I’m in my 30s all of the consequences of that are quite clear. I’m stable and secure, but stuck in a unsatisfying career, with no real achievements to be proud of. Nowadays I do my best to challenge myself whenever I can with my art and writing – it’s not always easy given the demands of work and family, but the challenge is kinda the point.

Thank you for reading! What’s important is not when we start but that we start at all! It is never too late to challenge yourself! Stick to your goals and everything will follow through. Good luck!

Lovely blog. I am so glad you decided to forge ahead. It is lively and personal, which I’m given to believe, is what people are looking for. Keep at it. Before long you will have more growth than you ever anticipated. In answer to the question: I’ve learned something from every mistake I’ve made, and at my advanced age of 73, I’ve made a good many of them. Life is a learning curve. 🙂

Thank you so much! I hope to be able to present myself in my posts. Since I started this blog I have been writing everyday and I am already happy with that growth. I completely agree that life is a huge learning curve 😄

Please don’t hesitate to contact me privately for any reason. I know I’m a faceless human behind a computer but I’ve been there and still am. Hello, fellow first-time blogger! 👋🏼 I’m making new mistakes all the time, which keeps my life in a statis of constant excitement and crippling regret – so much fun! But I’m still young, so it’s allowed, right?

Making mistakes is allowed, as long as we learn from them 😄! Welcome to WordPress too!

Hey Claire, best of luck with your new blog! I know exactly how you’re feeling, my current blog is far from my first. I’ve started new ones over the years, made a few posts, and then gave up on them. Your blog definitely sounds promising, and I look forward to reading more from you! 🙂
As for your question: I have made numerous mistakes in my thirty something years on Earth. I may blog about it at some point, what my regrets are and how they could have been different. But that would make it too depressing, and I’m trying to focus on recovery.
If you have any questions or want to chat more, then.. I’m not actually sure. But feel free to comment on my blog entries if you want to start a conversation or reply to this comment. 🙂

Thank you so much Becki and I hope my future posts can entertain you as much as this one does! Recovery is important too and should not be ignored. Take as much time as you need to recover, and place yourself first.
I’ll have a look through at your blog entries and looking forward to reading more from you!

Hi Claire,
I´m glad you joined the blogging community here on WordPress too!
To answer your question, one big mistake I made is starting my website and developing the habit of writing daily way too late. What I´ve learned from it? To take action immediately and stop overthinking everything.
I wish you the best of luck and I´m looking forward to read many great posts from you!
Although I´m no expert, feel free to contact me in case you need any help with WordPress and I´ll gladly help you the best I can.

I started out on blogger, but very few people found me (by accident or design). At least with WordPress, people are finding me, and responding.
I think you will like it. Before you know it, someone will nominate you for an award.
My biggest piece of advice is comment on other people’s blogs. It helps them and it helps you. Comments help them improve, and it also gives you a chance to develop your voice.
Good luck.

A mistake I have made in the past is not being intentional enough. It sounds as if you have that one covered already! Welcome!

We’re accidental bloggers. Needed a gravatar for a discussion board, and WordPress was the answer. We’re new, too.
We were in publishing 23 years ago—right out of college—and we printed 20,000 newsletters on the wrong paper! The client was forgiving. We learned to double check important details and get them in writing when possible! Glad you’re blogging.

Embrace the mistakes you make; they’re one of the best we have to learn. Maybe our goal should be not to make the same mistake twice..!

I agree Ian! Plus, some mistakes make for great stories to tell to others too 😄 I often tell people the mistakes I make not only to tell them what I’ve learned but to remind myself not to make the same mistake again 😅

Thanks for checking out our blog! We’re also just starting out and are looking forward to following your journey.
One mistake we’ve made is trying to get everything perfect before getting started on things. We will read everything, talk things out, and take weeks before writing a single blog post. We’re trying to learn that sometimes it’s important to just do it.

You’re welcome Catie and Christie! The stuff that you both do is so inspiring, I’ll be following your blog to read more!
I can relate to that so much because I used to be (maybe I still am) a perfectionist. Doing things head on has helped me as when I tried to get things perfect it just discouraged me when I didn’t reach my goals.
Here’s to learning new things!

Hi Claire! Thank you for looking at my page! I decided to check yours out and I love it already! I have made many mistakes but I don’t regret any of them, I have learnt a lot and although I have lost some friends, I am a true believer in the idea that everyone has a purpose in your life even for a brief moment! Welcome to WordPress and hope to talk to you more. Love Anita x

Thank you! I hope so too but not too soon, as I don’t think I’d be able to manage two blogs, as I’d need to make another one for creative writing 😅
Maybe I’ll talk about some of my original characters in future posts, we shall see 😄

You don’t necessarily have to blog about it, just do your own writing 🙂
As someone who has 2 blogs (and is *great* at starting stuff and then just fizzling out…), it’s certainly a juggling task!
